Kirby's Mason Lindsey would get a layup at the buzzer before half, as Kirby took a lead into the break. The third quarter was another back and forth one. Kirby got up by as many as 10, but the Jays would erase the deficit and take a lead at one point in the third. Down the stretch the Trojans made a couple of more plays late, and knocked down free throws at the end to win the game 79-70, as Nevada was forced to play the foul game late. "Give a lot of credit to Kirby tonight, they made the plays late, made a lot of shots, but our defense wasn't good enough tonight, #3 was tough on us tonight, but we'll adjust and we'll get a chance to take one from them in Kirby next month," Coach Eddie Beck said after the game.Â
Sophomores Monti Mixon and Taco Roberson of Nevada would combine for 44 points and 22 rebounds. Mixon had 23 points and 15 boards to post another double-double. Taco had 21 points and 7 boards, as he had his skill-set on display Tuesday night. "Our two sophomores really played big for us tonight, the executed well and showed the potential these two have, they responded well tonight," Coach Beck said when speaking about Mixon and Roberson. Rico Aparicio poured in 14 points, including some big 3's throughout the game. Kobe Hughey and Keyonte Wingfield each scored 6 points and had 5 assists.Â
Mason Lindsey of Kirby was a walking bucket as he finished with 35 points. The Blue Jays had no answer for him on Tuesday night. Lindsey also added 8 boards. Tyler Hardage poured in 14 points and dished out 7 assists. Jackson O'neal had 12 points and Gavyn Young scored 10.Â
If you missed out on seeing this game, these two teams are set to play again on Jan. 29th in Kirby. It will definitely be worth the price of admission.Â
