HOPE – Beryl Henry Elementary School Principal Dr. Roy Turner welcomed the Hope Public Schools Board of Education to his campus for the board’s November meeting Nov. 15 with an overview of the BHE philosophy.

“We prepare the students of today for success tomorrow,” Dr. Turner explained. “You can be anything you want to be but you must first want to be somebody.”

Those precepts are the foundation for the Together Everyone Achieves More (TEAM) collaborative teaching program at BHE, he said.

“I couldn’t do this job without you,” Turner said addressing BHE staff and faculty present in the school cafetorium. “You set the tone.”

He said BHE uses “data driven” information regarding academics, attendance and activity to collaboratively develop opportunities for students under the motto, “Every child, every chance, every day.”

As a result, Turner said, “Our students love to compete.”

He pointed to a performance by the BHE Choir prior to the beginning of the board meeting as an example.

“We haven’t been able to have these kinds of performances we usually have because of COVID-19,” Turner said. “But we have had one concert which we streamed virtually.”

That kind of innovation thrives on the support which BHE has had from its Parent-Teacher Organization, the school board and the Hope community, he said.

“We look forward to having your continued support,” Turner said.
