Two drafted Razorbacks during day three of MLB Draft

By Otis Kirk

FAYETTEVILLE -- Day 3 of the 2022 MLB Draft wasn't a bad one for Arkansas with only two recruits drafted and one has declared to attend school.

Basic (Nev.) center fielder Mason Neville, 6-3, 175, was drafted in Round 18 with pick No. 543 by the Cincinnati Reds. However, Neville almost immediately tweeted out his intentions to be a Razorback.

The Razorbacks have to hope for the same news from University of South Carolina transfer left-handed pitcher Julian Bosnic, 6-3, 218. Dave Van Horn signed Bosnic and is counting on him to be one of the key pitchers in 2023. Bosnic was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in Round 14 with pick No. 440.

UCA pitcher Tyler Cleveland, 6-3, 185, was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in Round 14 with pick No. 426. Cleveland started 14 games as UCA's Friday starter in 2022 and had a 7-2 record with a 2.93 earned-run average. He recorded four complete games and struck out a league-best 101 batters, giving him 192 strikeouts for his two-year career, placing him in the top five in school history. He attended Sheridan High School.

Others drafted on Tuesday were former Razorback pitcher Blake Adams, 6-2, 215, from Kansas State (Round 13, No. 386) by the Colorado Rockies, South Carolina pitcher James Hicks Jr., 6-2, 190, from Conway (Round 15, No. 437) by the Baltimore Orioles, former Arkansas pitcher Mark Adamiak, 6-4, 230, (Round 15, No. 454) by the Oakland A's and former Arkansas and Purdue outfielder Curtis Washington, 6-2, 180, (Round 19, Pick 576) by the Seattle Mariners.

Some interesting players not drafted included infielder Jayson Jones, who could be Cayden Wallace's replacement at third base, junior college infielder Harold Coll, first baseman and designated hitter Brady Slavens and left-handed pitcher Zack Morris.
