FAYETTEVILLE -- At Monday's Swatter's Club Dave Van Horn provided an update on injured starting pitcher Gage Wood.
The former Batesville standout was injured in the second game of the season when he felt some discomfort in his shoulder. In seven innings, Wood has struck out 13 and walked one. He was the Sunday starter for Van Horn. It was originally hoped he could come back by the start of SEC play which is March 14.
"We first were told three to six weeks, who knew what that was gonna end up being, but if you just go off of what we've seen him doing and the way he feels the way he's acting and smiling, I mean, he didn't have to pick up a ball or do anything for a while and he's already throwing and tossing stuff around because he doesn't feel pain in there now," Van Horn said. "And that's a good sign. We're not gonna let him go throw a bullpen or anything right now. He has to rest for a while, but I would say that it's probably as good as it could be until it's not. We feel good about where he's at. We don't know if it will be in three weeks or four weeks or what yet."
Landon Beidelschies filled in for Wood against Charlotte.
