Opening with a 51.37 through the first 300m, Van Camp covered the next lap in 1:10.57 (2:01.91 at 700m). Then she moved into the lead at the 1,100m mark, splitting 1:11.48 (3:13.39).
A quicker pace had Van Camp splitting 1:04.03 on her fourth and final circuit of the oval to finish with her time of 4:17.42, just off her career best of 4:16.48 set at the Stanford Invitational at the beginning of this month.
Sarah Hendrick of Kennesaw State won the tight contest in 4:16.68 with Valery Tobias of Texas runner-up in 4:17.09. Finishing behind Van Camp in fourth place was BYU’s Carmen Alder in 4:17.80.
Racing in a separate section of the 1,500m, Carmie Prinsloo clocked a season best of 4:22.91 to finish fourth in the race and 16th overall. Running her outdoor debut in the event, Sydney Thorvaldson posted a 4:26.69 to finish sixth and 22nd overall.
Later in the evening, Adeotte Vaughn raced in the College division of the 5,000m and ran a time of 17:18.42, placing 20th in her section.
