Volley Saints Place 3rd at Tournament in Little Rock Over the Weekend
Little Rock- The Volley Saints hit the road this weekend to Southwest Christian Academy for a tournament that saw eight teams compete. GMCS had a rough start to the tourney, as they dropped their first two pool games, but turned the corner in the third pool play game and won the 4th pool play game as well to earn a decent seed in bracket play. The Volley Saints would win the first bracket play game to advance to the semi-finals before being bounced by SCA a game short of the finals. The coaching staff believes they made a big jump in halfway through the first day and it showed as they won 3 consecutive games to get the the semis. Below are game by game stats for all six games. 

POOL GAMES

ACA 2       GMCS 0

The Volley Saints had a tough go of it early on Friday morning as they fell to ACA in their first pool game in straight sets 25-14 and 25-21. Gracy Martin had 3 aces, 2 kills, and 2 digs for the Saints. Baylee Pogue had 2 kills and 1 dig, while Silbi Jones had 1 kill and 2 blocks. Brailyn Almand had 2 aces and 2 digs and Katie Holland posted an ace and 2 digs. Heaven Garcia had 4 digs, Savannah Fields and Raylee Adkison each had 2 digs, and Laila Santifer had 1 dig. 

UNION 2    GMCS 0

In a game where not much went right for Garrett Memorial, the Volley Saints dropped two sets to a very good Union team 25-8, 25-7. Gracy Martin had 2 kills, Silbi Jones had 1 kill, Baylee Pogue had 1 dig, and Brailyn Almand had 1 ace. 

GMCS 2     SCA#2  1

The Volley Saints won a close opening set 25-23, to set themselves up nicely in their third game of the day on Friday. They would drop the 2nd set 23-25 before dominating the third and final set 15-4 to secure the win. Silbi Jones had a great game with 4 aces, 4 kills, and 3 digs. Baylee Pogue served 8 aces and also added a kill and 2 digs. Gracy Martin had 3 big kills at the net. Laila Santifer served an ace and had a great game at the net with 2 blocks. Heaven Garcia had a team-high 5 digs, while Raylee Adkison played great with 2 aces and 2 digs. Brailyn Almand served up 3 aces and Savannah Fields had 1 kill.

GMCS 2    VALLEY CHRISTIAN 1

GMCS would drop the first set against Valley 25-21, but decided to lock in and win the next two sets 25-16 and 15-8 for the big comeback win. Baylee Pogue once again served up a team-high 8 aces in the match, along with 3 kills and 2 digs. Silbi Jones had 5 aces, 3 kills, and 2 digs. Gracy Martin had 2 aces and 2 kills. Heaven Garcia once again had a team-high 4 digs, while Raylee Adkison added 2 digs and an ace. Savannah Fields had 2 aces and 3 kills at the net. Laila Santifer had 2 aces and Brailyn Almand had 1 ace and 1 kill. The Volley Saints ended pool play with a 2-2 record to give them the 4-seed in bracket play. 

BRACKET PLAY

The Volley Saints started of bracket play on Saturday on a great note, as they swept Vally Christian 25-21, 25-14, and 25-23. Baylee Pogue had a team-high 9 kills, served up 5 aces, and had 3 digs. Savannah Fields served up 9 aces as she was handing out aces like a blackjack dealer. Fields also added 3 kills and 2 digs. Gracy Martin played great as well, as she had 7 aces, 2 kills, and 2 digs. Silbi Jones continued to dominate with 7 kills, 6 aces, 1 dig, and 2 blocks. Heaven Garcia had 5 digs, Laila Santifer had a kill and 2 digs, and Brailyn Almand had 2 kills, an ace, and 1 dig. 

The Semi-Final match against SCA was a tough one and the 6th game of the weekend, as they fell to SCA. Baylee Pogue had 2 aces, 2 kills, and 2 digs for GMCS. Silbi Jones had 3 kills, 3 digs, an ace, and 2 more blocks at the net. Savannah Fields had 3 kills, Laila Santifer and Brailyn Almand each had 2 kills. Heaven Garcia had 4 digs and Raylee Adkison had 2 digs. 

This was a good weekend of volleyball for the Volley Saints, as they put together a good run of games this weekend. The Volley Saints are back in action on Monday as they host a tough opponent in Westside, with the Jr. squad beginning at 4:30.
