Volunteers sought for Prescott financial decision simulation
For those of us who went through high school in prior decades, a half-day experience showing us what it is like to make decisions with our paychecks (like paying for housing, our cars, insurance, medical care, utilities, clothing and entertainment) might have prevented the early adulthood mistakes we may still be paying for.

In Prescott next month volunteers are needed to help make such an experience possible for students.

On Wednesday, May 13th, the Nevada County Extension Office in conjunction with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture plan to hold its Get Real program, which it defines as "a hands-on experiential simulation that gives youth the opportunity to experience the future in a financial decision-making mode." During the event students will be "encouraged to make wise financial lifestyle choices like those that adults ace each month based on their family size and affordability.

Sheila Ballard, Nevada County Extension Agent, has sent out an email asking for volunteers to assist at the various stations that will be set up in the old gymnasium on the Prescott Public Schools campus.

For the event, Ballard said, "there will be four rotations of students. Each rotation will take an hour to visit the 12 stations."  The event would begin at 8:30 a.m. and finish around 12:30 p.m.  The students will be from the eighth and 11th grades.

To volunteer for the event, contact Ballard at 1-870-887-2818 or smballard@uada.edu
