This week’s Hope-Hempstead Chamber of Commerce Coffee was held in the Unity Baptist Church lobby, and the Christmas decorations made clear just what time of year it is.
Laid out on tables were lots of brunch items made by members of the church, and once they were made available at 9:30 a.m., attendees began streaming in.
Unity Baptist Pastor Nick Flowers said the coffee was a way to point up the church’s purpose. “We’re here to make a difference in the community. And we want the city of Hope to know that we offer hope in a city called Hope, the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, so we appreciate the opportunity to do this.”
One of the organizers of the coffee, Holli Boyett, a church member, said “Miss Jeri [Easterling] and I kind of headed it up. We wanted to host on this specific day at the end of the November, because we are highlighting our Christmas program. There’s something just about every week in December. We want to encourage people to come.” She added that the Christmas program was what drew her to the church when she was new in town a few years ago.
