“From day one of the 119th Congress, House Republicans have vowed to root out waste, fraud, and abuse; ultimately protecting not only the American taxpayer but the vital programs which support our most vulnerable citizens.
“Today’s vote on the reauthorization of the expired Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits was a step in the wrong direction. These credits throw more money into a broken system without reforms to the ACA. The credits target a small portion of the top income earners on the ACA and do nothing to lower out of control insurance costs for the general population. They were created during a time of global crisis and were intended to expire – a sunset measure my Democrat colleagues were well aware of when they created the legislation.
“Healthcare has become unaffordable in the United States due to the broken system created by the Affordable Care Act -- a system in which young and healthy individuals are paying higher premiums to account for lower premiums for the sick and elderly. This has now led to an increased younger, healthier population that is uninsured because they can’t afford higher costs.
“Today’s vote was certainly disheartening as it continues to place an ineffective band aid on an issue by using taxpayer dollars to subsidize our broken health care system. My goal will always be to advocate for commonsense, conservative legislation that protects everyday Americans instead of lining the pockets of insurance companies as they play a rigged game in which they are the winners and American taxpayers are the losers. That is why I voted no.”
