Westin Barnett Rides Home With State Titles
Westin Barnett, son of Aimie Formby Wise and Kyle Barnett, and a soon to be ninth grader at Spring Hill School competed in the state finals with the Arkansas Junior High Rodeo Association this past weekend at the Saline County fair grounds, roping and riding his way to the top.

With a brood of horses and cows on his family's ranch and plenty of space to practice at home, Barnett has been performing in the arena since he was six years old.

When asked what being in rodeos meant to him, Barnett said, "Rodeoing means a lot to me because it's where I have lots of fun, hangout with friends and do what I love most of all. I am thankful to my mom and dad for all they do for me so I can be successful in the arena."

Throughout the year he has participated in rodeos across the state taking titles and trophies at each one. This was his second year to be involved in the AJHRA where he wrangled in every event, including Bare Back Steers, Saddle Bronc Steers, Bull Riding, Tie Down, Ribbon Roping, Goat Tying, Chute Dogging and Team Roping.

Literally taking the bull by the horns, Barnett finished out the season winning first place in Bare Back Steers, Saddle Bronc Steers, Bull Riding, Goat Tying, Chute Dogging and Ribbon Roping, placing second in Team Roping, while also achieving the all around title with top points for the year.

With those victories, Barnett came home with a treasure trove of awards in tow; six saddles and sixteen buckles total.

Aimie Formby Wise, mother of Barnett had this to say, "As a mother raising 2 cowboys. I am super proud of them. Westin has had many accomplishments during his rodeo career. He always gives a 110% and he really loves every event they offer. My saying would be 'Mamas LET your babies grow up to be cowboys.' And I’m one proud Mama.”

Next year Barnett will move up to the ASHRA team and plans to compete throughout his high school career.
