Six-year-old William Cooper, known as Junior by family and friends, has spent the last week in a charitable pursuit. Despite the growing heat, each day he ventured out to the shade tree across from the flea market on Highway 67 in Prescott to operate his lemonade stand. He said he wanted to raise money for the homeless, get toys for Santa, and maybe even get a few toys for himself, as well. Cooper also provided the option of fruit punch for visiting patrons, and a few supportive members of the community donated items to assist with his endeavor. Mayor Terry Oliver gave him some fruit snacks to add to his inventory, and a local farmer donated some squash. Numerous citizens turned out to bolster Cooper's goal, and he was successful, averaging about $50 a day. But his work, and the week, aren't over yet. Tomorrow, he will be set up in front of Walgreens in Hope for any passersby who wish to take a break from the warm weather or support a worthy cause.
