Wright and Golden: First female Scouts to receive Eagle Scout rank in Troop 5
Troop 5 has two Scouts who completed all the requirements for Eagle Scout rank. Emma Wright and Daunna Golden had their Eagle Scout Board of Review on October 2, 2023 and have successfully passed all the requirements needed to become Eagle Scouts.  Emma and Daunna are the first female scouts to receive the Eagle Scout rank for Troop 5.

Emma Wright joined Troop 5 in February of 2019 and has held the following positions in Troop 5:  Quarter Master, Senior Patrol Leader, and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster.  Emma has completed 39 merit badges and is a member of the Order of the Arrow.  She is currently an officer of the Order of the Arrow and holds the secretary and treasurer positions. She is the daughter of Robert and Betty Wright of Hope, Arkansas. Emma’s Eagle Scout project was a trellis that was constructed in the Pocket Park in downtown Hope, Arkansas.

Daunna Golden joined Troop 5 in February of 2019 and has held the following positions in Troop 5:  Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. Daunna has completed 42 merit badges and is a member of the Order of the Arrow.  Daunna is the daughter of Donnie and Jerrilynn Golden of Hope, Arkansas.  Daunna’s Eagle Scout project was a pavilion that was constructed next to Huckabee Lake located in Fair Park in Hope, Arkansas.

In order to become an Eagle Scout, one must have first earned Life Scout rank, be active in his or her troop for a period of at least six months as a Life Scout and serve in a position.  As a Life Scout, one should demonstrate Scout spirit by living the Scout Oath and Scout Law.  Scouts then must have earned a total of 21 merit badges (10 more than required for the Life rank), including 13 specific merit badges.  Scouts plan and prepare a project that must be approved by their Scoutmaster and then by their council.  Finally, once the Eagle Scout Project is completed, the Scout participates in an Eagle Scout Board of Review.

Eagle Scouts must exhibit superior Leadership, ethics, and responsible behavior over their years in the Troop to earn the title of Eagle. Their achievement is recognized by corporations and the military as a testimony to their remarkable record of setting goals, planning, and finishing their objectives.

An Eagle Scout Court of Honor will be held on October 29th, 2023 at 2pm at the Harlan Scout Center at Lake Huckabee in the Fair Park in Hope, AR.  A reception will follow in the Harlan Scout Center.  Troop 5 meets every Tuesday from 7-8:30 pm at the Harlan Scout Center.  Boys and girls ages 11-17 are encouraged to join.
