Barry Dale Barber

Barry Dale Barber, 71, of Prescott, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2023 in Hot Springs, Arkansas of complications from heart surgery.

Barry was born October 28, 1951 in Florence, Alabama.  Shortly thereafter he moved from Alabama and never got the joy of rooting for a championship quality football team. Upon meeting Barry, one was immediately impressed with his intelligence.  Throughout his life he had achievements showing that intelligence.  He graduated from Osceola, Arkansas High School in 1969 as valedictorian of his class. In 1973, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. In 1976, he graduated from the University of Arkansas Law School with high honors.

Upon graduation, Barry joined what is now the McKenzie, Vasser, Barber law firm in Prescott, Arkansas. He spent his entire 46 year career with the firm. While living in his adopted home town of Prescott, he was very active in the Kiwanis Club, the Friends of the Nevada County Library as well as many other civic and charitable organizations. For fun he liked to bowl and play bridge. He was also a proud fan of any Arkansas Razorback sporting event that he could find on television or perhaps attend in person.

Barry had four great loves in his life: his family; the citizens of Prescott, Arkansas; his record collection and the Arkansas Razorbacks. He was quite proud that his record collection included vinyl versions of every number one and number two single on the pop charts from 1955 to 1975. Almost as great as those four loves was his love of the Dallas Cowboys and his Prescott BarBarryans fantasy football team.  It must be admitted that he was the best general manager of the Barber Friends and Family League.

Barry was also an avid fan of the television show Jeopardy! He taped the show every day for watching during his leisure time. It is the family’s opinion, that Barry could give Ken Jennings a run for his money, if he could have handled the lights and cameras.

Barry was preceded in death by his father, Dale Barber. He leaves behind his mother, Jo Barber of Paragould, Arkansas; his sister, Sandra Ammons of Osceola, Arkansas; his sister, Carole (Tony) Peterson of Paragould, Arkansas; his brother, Doug (Freddie) of Wooster, Arkansas; his nephew Walt (Lynn) Driver of Osceola, Arkansas; his nephew Kevin (Luisa) Kidd of Chandler, Arizona; his nephew Brad (Tammie) Driver of Osceola, Arkansas; his nephew Bryan (Sara) Kidd of Paragould, Arkansas; his niece, Marti (Jeremy) Johnson of Paragould, Arkansas; his nephew Alex (Kelly) Barber of Sherwood, Arkansas; his nephew Paul (Aaron) Barber of Portland, Oregon; and his niece, Katherine Dickens of Wooster, Arkansas.

There will be a memorial for Barry on Saturday, January 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Herndon-Fugua Funeral Home in Prescott, Arkansas. There will also be a “Celebration of Barry Barber’s Life” on Saturday, January 28th at the Paragould Country Club at a time to be determined. Both will be officiated by the Rev. Jim Rowland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee in Barry’s memory.
