First-year Spring Hill Bears Head Football Coach Greg Smith confirmed Tuesday that the Senior boy’s team will be forfeiting the remainder of the 2019 season.
Coach Smith, who has coached for 26 years, said that attrition throughout the season has left the team with too few players and too many injuries.
Coach Smith reiterated that it will take time to rebuild the Bears program and said he and his squad really need the community’s support. He said he knows that the team’s supporters are disappointed with the decision to bring the team’s season to an early end but ensures them that it is a decision made in the best interest of his players.
Though disappointed himself in having to make the call, Coach Smith said he and his staff are very positive about the future of the Bears program. He said the Junior High team will continue to compete and they are still working out and training the Senior High players who chose to play next season.
