HOPE – The 2019 Hope High School Bobcats will be introduced at HHS Media Day here Aug. 9, as the Cats prepare for their second season under HHS Head Coach Phillip Turner.
“We will start Media Day with the varsity squad at 8 a.m. at Hammons Stadium,” Turner said.
He anticipates adding a few players to the program as summer camp activity gives way to official preseason workouts. Depth will be a factor this season for the Bobcats.
“I will have to cancel the junior varsity season; we don’t have enough players for that,” Turner said.
Turner said students who are interested in joining the HHS program still have an opportunity prior to the start of fall classes.
“If they’ve never played football; but, they have to have good grades and good behavior records,” he said.
Academics and student conduct come first for his players, Turner said.
“I want the guys who want to be here,” he said. “After the first week of school, I will know what we’ve got.”
The Bobcats will run the “spread” on offense, again, this year; and, will use a 4-2-5 defense, Turner said.
“So, we have got to get in shape to play an entire game,” he said.
The team switches from morning to afternoon practices at 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday beginning July 22; and, full preseason camp begins Aug. 5.
The Cats will take on Lake Hamilton in a preseason scrimmage Aug. 27 at Hammons Stadium at 5:30 p.m. for both junior high and high school programs.
