Burn Ban Issued for Hempstead County

Hempstead County Judge Jerry Crane has issued a burn ban for Hempstead County until further notice.

In a release from the Judge’s office, a lack of recent rainfall and continued rapidly drying condition is cited as necessitating the banning of all outdoor burning and discharge of fireworks in Hempstead County.

The ban is issued when conditions are such that the potential hazard to life and property is too high. The burn ban will remain in effect until the order is lifted by the Judge.

Burning any flammable materials including brush and trash during a burn ban is a Class A misdemeanor enforceable through the Hempstead County District Court. The Hempstead County Sheriff’s Department will enforce the ban and issue citations for violators.
