This week’s Chamber of Commerce Coffee was in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church at 701 South Main. Church members provided the items on the serving table which included lemon squares, Snickerdoodle chocolate chip cookies, brownies, pigs in a blanket, sausage cheese biscuits, Jerome bars, cinnamon rolls, Amish friendship bread (with cream cheese) and green tomato mini-pies.
During the coffee, Bonnie Raff, Regent of the John Cain Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution spoke in commemoration of Flag Day, which is this coming Tuesday, June 14. She urged those attending to fly their American flags and explained how Betsy Ross wowed members of a committee, which included then Commander-in-chief of the Revolutionary Armies, named to decide on a flag uniting the 13 original colonies by showing how a five-pointed star could easily be cut in one snip with a pair of scissors. Raff took her own scissors to a thatch of white cloth she had folded and showed exactly how it had been done. It was like magic.
