On April 2, 1962, a joyful bouncing baby boy—named Charlton “Charlie” Dewayne Hicks was born to Sylvester and Dollie Green Hicks in Hope, Arkansas.
Charlton’s early years were spent in Hope, where he attended School of Hope. He later was employed at Sheltered Workshop. He retired after 30 years due to health issues.
On December 6, 2019, Charlton departed this life at Wadley Regional Medical Center.
He loved spending time with his family and friends and above all he adored his great nephew Jenesis. Amid participating in the Special Olympic games which awarded him many ribbons. He loved to fish, bowl, dance and had received several trophies to prove such. Often, he traveled extensively with his co-workers to vacation spots across the country.
He leaves to cherish his memory three sisters: Shasme Hicks Muckleroy and Robin Shepard of Hope, Arkansas and Yvette Hicks Stewart of Denver, Colorado; one brother, Cedric Devon Hicks of Texarkana, Arkansas; three aunts, Gloria J. (Monroe) McFadden and Shirley H. Davis of Hope, Arkansas and Callie H. Marshall of Flint, Michigan; one uncle, Jerome (Lee Ola) Green of Hope, Arkansas; a special niece and nephew, Jaleesha and Clayburn Hicks of Hope, Arkansas; one great nephew, Jenesis Hicks of Hope, Arkansas; two special cousins/guardians, Rene (David) Muldrew and Sophia Golston of Hope, Arkansas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents and his sister, Sylvia Whistenton of Denver, Colorado.
Visitation will be 11am-5pm Friday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11am Saturday, December 14 at Bethel AME Church, 408 South Laurel, Hope. Burial will be at Scott’s Memorial Gardens in Perrytown. Arrangements entrusted to Hicks Funeral Home, Inc.
