Just a few months shy of a year after breaking ground for their new clinic, Christus Trinity Clinic is finally completed and the doctors are ready to serve their patients at the new location.
A very large crowd, including several doctors and staff from Christus St. Michael in Texarkana, gathered to celebrate the opening with a ribbon cutting and blessing of the new clinic.
Mark Driscoll welcomed everyone by saying, “this has been a dream and a journey for this clinic.” After introducing several members of the Christus operations team, he then turned the program over to Dr. Scott Smith who talked about the benefits of having a primary care physician in your community. “As a healthcare physician looking at healthcare in America, the articles and studies we read show that the health of the population improves when you have a primary care physician in your community. Too many communities do not have access to primary care physicians and we are very excited to have 2 primary care physicians and 1 nurse practitioner to serve the clinic and serve the community of Hope, AR,” Smith said.
Mike Onuoha, manager of spiritual care for Christus, continued the program with a prayer and Father Ignatius performed a blessing and concluding rites.
Dr. Brent Bennett then said a few brief remarks, sharing his journey and vision for the new clinic. Dr. Bennett, who has practiced in Hope for 4 1/12 years, said that he made a commitment a long time ago to return and serve in a rural community when he graduated medical school. 6 years ago, Bennett, along with several others, had a vision to develop a multi-provider practice to serve this community. They started in a very small clinic over by the hospital and quickly grew into “the most amazing practice that I could ever ask for.” Shortly after that, Devin Shepard, NP came on board and as of November, they have added Dr. Allyson Hanson.
Dr. Bennett is extremely pleased to see this dream finally accomplished, “When I signed my contract with Christus 6 years ago, 6 months after that, we were going to break ground and build this building. We have worked through everything required to get this done and finally it is here. It has been a journey, but it’s all worth it now. I hope that you feel like we have made an impact on this community like I have, I hope that we have been able to get people into the doctor when they need to be seen, get them the screenings they need, refilling their medicine, taking care of their kids, their parents. That’s my goal and I think that this building allows us to do a better job at that,” said Dr. Bennett.
Bennett also expressed his thanks to the community for making him feel at home here in Hope since he began his practice, “I feel like I have been very blessed that I have been welcomed in this community the way that I have. It feels like home to me now.”
After introducing the clinic staff, Dr. Bennett handed the program over the Dr. Allyson Hanson, who began her practice at Christus Trinity Clinic in November.
Dr. Hanson, a graduate of Spring Hill High School, said that it has always been her dream to come back and practice in her hometown. “This community is great. It has meant so much to me how everyone has just accepted me with open arms already. I have been busier than I ever expected to be in the first couple of months. I love it because, it’s not just “the” community, its my commuinty. I live here, my family is from here, I know most of you, I’m going to be here forever and it means a lot to be to finally be here practicing.”
Before everyone ventured outside to officially cut the ribbon, Mayor Steve Montgomery said a few words on how healthcare is important for any type of community and thanked Christus for coming in and investing in Hope and the property the new clinic is located on. “Hopefully down the line, we will see this area grow and expand and I look forward to Christus growing and expanding as well,” Montgomery said.
