Collingsworths bring Christian message to Hope on Friday
By Rick Kennedy, managing editor
Following a long line of Christian acts like the Booth Brothers, Kingdom Heirs, and Triumphant that have made their way to Hope the past three years, the Collinsworth Family brings their mix of Christian message and songs to Hempstead Hall this Friday, January 18, starting at 7 p.m. In an update on Wednesday afternoon, a spokesperson at Hempstead Hall said ticket sales for Friday night’s concert are “going well.”
Unlike the previous acts, mostly male-dominated quartets or groups, the Collinsworth Family will have a decidedly diverse influence as four of its six members singing are females, featuring group co-founder Kim Collinsworth, who has several awards in recent years for Musician of the Year by the Singing News Fans Awards.
Along with Kim are the group’s co-founder Phil, along with Brooklyn, Courtney, Phillip and Olivia. The entire family sings together in an ensemble. Kim is also well-known for her work on the piano, and Phil often performs trumpet solos in the shows.
Their official biography states that Phil and Kim’s base of ministry began during their college days. Phil is a 1986 graduate of God’s Bible School and College, Cincinnati, OH, and completed professional trumpet studies at College Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. He also earned a Bachelor of Sacred Music with a double major in trumpet performance and music education. Kim attended Union Bible College, Westfield, IN, where she was instrumental in arranging most of the music performed by the college’s traveling music groups.
Arriving in Hope on Friday night, the Collingsworth Family starts a tour swing of neighboring Texas before back-tracking to Florida. They are in Asheville, North Carolina tonight, Wednesday, and will be in Montgomery, Alabama on Thursday.
Their biography also notes that since their first engagement together as musicians for a church camp in Petersburg, Michigan in 1986, the ministry God has given Phil and Kim has expanded and flourished until it is a full-time livelihood that involves their entire family. They have sung and played all over the United States, as well as internationally.
Their current studio project, Mercy & Love, was released last September, which their present United State tour is supporting. It includes their radio single, “Mercy and Love,” credited as being written by Randall Garland and Rachel McCutcheon.
The Collingsworth Family is also featured on the nation’s largest gospel music syndicated radio program, The Gospel Greats with Paul Heil and as expected, they are also regularly featured on XM/Sirius Satellite Radio’s Enlighten Channel 65, GMT (Gospel Music Television).
In addition to Kim Collingworth’s individual awards, the family as a group was also named Singing News Fan Awards Mixed Group of the Year for the years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
