Couple Injured Crashing Into Trees at I-30 Scales

A man and woman were rushed to the hospital for injuries they sustained in a single-vehicle crash at the weight scales on I-30 Friday night.

The couple was traveling east on I-30 at the ARDOT weight scales at about 9:55 p.m. Friday when their Lincoln Navigator left the interstate and crashed into a group of large pine trees. According to a witness who was following them at the time, no brake lights ever came on on the SUV as it drifted off the right side of the road and crashed into the trees.

Hope Police Officers, Hempstead County Deputies, Arkansas State Police, Hope Fire Department and Pafford EMS were all paged out to respond. An Arkansas Highway Police Officer also responded from the scales.

An officer on scene notified central dispatch that Pafford would need a second truck to treat the injured. Pafford attempted to get air medical to respond to the scene to transport the patients but all air services declined due to the weather conditions.

law enforcement and firefighters assisted the Pafford crews to get the man and woman out of the SUV and across the soft ground to the ambulances on the side of the interstate. Both were transported to Texarkana hospitals emergency status.

The identities of the man and woman were not able to be obtained but their Navigator had Indiana tags.
