DAR Constitution Week
Benjamin Culp Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution hosted a Community Coffee on September 19th at the Nevada County Library to celebrate Constitution Week that has been declared by Congress to be September 17 through September 23 of each year. A copy of the Constitution was on display along with brochures and bookmarks of the Pledge of Allegiance, the American Creed and the Preamble to the Constitution. A Constitution book was given to each person in attendance. The Constitution flag was flown at the library and many American flags were on display.
Members of DAR visited schools in Nevada and Hempstead counties to handout Constitution books, bookmarks with the Pledge of Allegiance, the American Creed and the Preamble to the Constitution along with a pamphlet, Flag Code that gives information on displaying the flag, showing respect for the flag, retiring the flag and other important facts. Proclamations were left with the teachers for the students stating that they would read the Constitution. Flag pins were given to those students that agreed to do this.
Each year DAR celebrates the Constitution with different events in order to encourage the reading and study of the Constitution.
