Dr. Andy Szebenyi
Dr. Andrew Szebenyi, 71, a long-time resident of Hope, AR, passed away on February 26, 2019. He was born January 2, 1948, in Budapest, Hungary. Andy was the second son of Dr. Emil and Clara Szebenyi. He graduated from Passaic Valley High School (Little Falls, NJ), Yale University (New Haven, CT), and Tufts Medical School (Boston, MA). He then pursued his surgical residency at both Georgetown University Hospital (Washington D.C.) and Albert Einstein Medical Center (Philadelphia, PA). He married Cynthia Hillmer on June 22, 1975, and they celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary in June 2018.
Andy and Cindy moved to Hope, AR, in December of 2004 and opened their practice at Medical Park Hospital. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hope, and he served the community through his surgical practice for seven years until he retired in 2012.
Andy loved learning and pursued many hobbies through the years. He enjoyed cooking for his wife, and he shared a passion for sports with his son. As an avid reader, he often shared stories with his daughter, who inherited his love of books.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Emil Szebenyi and Clara Goots Szebenyi. Andy is survived by his wife, Cindy Szebenyi (Hope, AR); son, Brian Szebenyi and wife, Daniella (Ponte Vedra, FL); and daughter, Kristin Szebenyi (St. Louis, MO). He is also survived by his brother, Tom Szebenyi, and wife, Marian (Newfield, NY); brother, Dr. Steven Szebenyi, (Cranberry Township, PA), and his nieces and nephews.
