FedEx Driver Injured When Truck Crashes Into Tree

A FedEx driver was injured when he truck impacted head-on with a tree in Hempstead County Monday.

Kathleen Hawkins was traveling west on Hempstead County Road 2 in a FedEx delivery truck when she lost control, running off of the north side of the road and impacting a cluster of trees head-on. The crash caused major damage to the front of the truck and set off the airbags.

A nearby resident said the driver had come east up the road before turning around and going back east. He said the driver was not driving fast and appeared to be trying to locate a residence or road.

Hawkins was checked by a first responder from Guernsey Volunteer Fire Department who stayed with her until a crew from Pafford EMS arrived. The medic stabilized her injury and helped her to the ambulance.

Hempstead County Deputy Reyn Brown investigated the crash.
