Helen Troy Bass

Helen Troy Bass, 92, passed away at Park Highlands Nursing Home, Athens TX on 1, June 2020. Troy was born in Arkadelphia, AR to loving parents, Foy Hayden Hammons and Frances Antoinette Welsh Hammons. She is also preceded in death by sister, Mary Frances Hammons; and brothers Foy Hayden Hammons Jr. and Jimmie Dick Hammons.

Troy is lovingly remembered by her son, Lloyd Ree Bass, II (Cheryl) of Frisco, TX and sister, Beryl Judith Hammons Schafer (John) of Rockwall, TX, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Though Troy started many companies of her own, she worked primarily as a bookkeeper throughout her career. Upon retirement, she had the opportunity to move out to the country on Cedar Creek Reservoir to live by and enjoy time with her nephew, R Dan Herod, his wife Charlotte “Charly”, and their 7 children: Christopher Herod (Jennifer), Richard Davis, Tina Herod Stanley (Mike), Frances Herod Perry (Brad), Melissa Davis, Michael Herod (Chanda), and James Patton. Dan, Charly and their children gave their love and care to Troy for many years as she advanced in age. Were it not for the tireless efforts of their family and many others, “Aunt Troy” would not have enjoyed such happiness in her golden years.

Troy enjoyed many hobbies including: golf, bowling, woodworking, scrapbooking, genealogy, cooking and writing. She was an avid letter-writer and was diligent in her efforts to keep in touch with many friends and family. A talented writer, she wrote several books regarding her years growing up in the Arkansas country at the “Quale’s Nest”, as well as extensive genealogical reports and anecdotes.

After her son, Lloyd, was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in 1982, Troy converted shortly thereafter. A long-time member of the Methodist church, she loved the LDS doctrinal teachings that families can be sealed together forever. As family meant more than life itself to Troy, she had no greater desire than to be with all of her family in this life and the next.

Troy was cremated at the direction of Brazzel Oakcrest Funeral Home, Hope AR. Due to COVID-19 precautionary measures and restrictions on gatherings at the time of passing, Troy’s Memorial Service and Interment will occur 10:00 A.M. on Saturday 24, October 2020. Interment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hope AR with a Memory Sharing and luncheon directly to follow at Hampton Inn and Suites, Hope AR.
