Diversity, Citizen Leadership are sought in Candidates, Central Committee
HOPE, AR–Election Season for Arkansas’ counties and the state starts on Monday, November 4, 12:00 p.m.
According to Arkansas state law, persons wanting to run for County, Municipal or Statewide elected offices must file their paperwork and accompanying fees the first week in November. The filing period will close on Tuesday, November 12, 12:00 p.m. because the one-week end of the filing period falls on Veterans Day.
The Hempstead County political office on the 2020 Primary ballot and, if necessary, General Election ballot, is Justice of the Peace, which is a member of the Quorum Court. The Democratic Party of Hempstead County has set its filing fee for Justice of the Peace at $50.
Hempstead Countians can also file the Membership Form to join the Democratic Party of Hempstead County’s Central Committee. The suggested membership dues are $15. County Central Committee Members are the infrastructure and support for Democratic candidates and
set the priorities for local political and civic activities. Members will also file the County Representative form to be eligible to elect the delegates that Arkansas will send to the Democratic National Convention in Wisconsin in July 2020.
Sylvia Brown, Democratic Party of Hempstead County Chair, said, “Elections are a key part of our country’s founding principles. Unfortunately, our political processes, let alone our civic activities, aren’t always people-friendly or transparent. There are citizen leaders in our community who are hungry for connection, have quality ideas and are ready to step into
leadership positions. All are welcome in the Democratic Party’s tent.”
