Hope Auto Chevrolet has a couple different challenges for the community going through Thanksgiving and into the Christmas season this year. One that give the community the chance to give to those in need and another that gives someone a chance to receive a new hunting rifle.
The Hope Auto Chevrolet team has partnered with Hope-in-Action for its Pocket Change Food Drive to help families in need this holiday season and is challenging deer hunters with its Big Buck Contest, where one hunter will walk away with a new hunting rifle.
The Pocket Change Food Drive is collecting canned and non-perishable foods for Hope-in-Action to make sure families in need don’t go without during Thanksgiving and Christmas, where family meals are a huge part of tradition and celebration and the demand on Hope-in-Action’s resources is the greatest. Donations can be dropped off through New Year’s Eve at Hope Auto Chevrolet at 1700 N. Harvey St. in Hope.
If you are looking for a good time to drop off your non-perishable food donations, Christie said they welcome you to come and visit the team during the Hope Chamber of Commerce Christmas Open House event November 29 from 4-7 p.m.
The Big Buck Contest is open to all deer hunters through the end of rifle season on December 16. Christie Cox, of Hope Auto, said the contest is not limited to a specific region and they have had people coming in from all over the surrounding area. The only requirement, she said, is that they must see the deer in person.
Those interested in participating must bring their buck to Hope Auto Chevrolet at 1700 N. Hervey and present it to be judged. Christie said contestants can bring just the head or the entire buck and to have their buck’s rack judged. Christie said each buck will be scored based on a set guide which accounts for size, tine count, symmetry, spread and more. Christie said they had a monster 15 pointer brought in but it didn’t score as high as it could have because the rack was atypical, so the contest is still wide open.
The winner will be determined by the highest score once all bucks have been entered at the close of the season and will be awarded their choice of a .243 or .270 hunting rifle.
