HPD Calling Shooting of Hope Woman an Accident

UPDATE 5-31-2019: According to Hope Police Assistant Chief Kim Tomlin, the investigation into the shooting of a Hope woman Monday night has led investigators to determine that the shooting was accidental.

According to Assistant Police Chief Kim Tomlin, officers were notified at around 11:15 p.m. on Monday, May 27 by dispatch that a call came in from Wadley that they just admitted a patient to the ER who suffered a gunshot wound. Jennifer Martin, 29, was admitted to the ER with a reported gunshot wound to her torso.

Officers responded to the hospital and the reported scene of the shooting in the 1500 block of West 5th St. in Caney Creek. During their investigation, officers attempted to locate a suspect who they were told had fled the scene and an arrest of 29-year-old Ronreaco Muldrew. Muldrew was transported to the Hempstead County Detention Center and booked for domestic battery 3rd degree and possession of a firearm by certain persons.

Initial information was conflicting but upon further investigation, detectives ruled the shooting an accident and are currently pursuing no charges and don’t plan to issue any arrest warrants.
