Transportation schedules largely unchanged

HOPE – Hope Public Schools District car line and school bus transportation schedules and queues will remain generally unchanged for the 2019-2020 school year.

Construction expected to occur along the 600 block of West Sixth Street at the Hope Academy of Public Service campus may foster changes at HAPS later in the year.

“There will not be any changes until we know about Sixth Street,” HAPS Principal Dr. Carol Ann Duke said.

Parents should contact their child’s campus office to learn about any changes in bus routes, HPSD Transportation Director Maurice Henry said.

“We encourage parents to get to know their child’s bus driver,” Henry said.

Parents should use the “Here Comes the Bus” application online to learn more specific information regarding their child’s pickup and delivery. Henry said a link to the application will be made available on each campus website.

Henry also asks that parents of young students, particularly kindergarten-age, to accompany children to daily pickup and drop off sites for safety purposes; and, parents should arrive five to 10 minutes early each day for both pickup and drop off to enhance student safety.

Henry said copies of the district transportation handbook will be available to students during Open House on Aug. 8. Classes will begin on Aug. 13.

Clinton Primary

Clinton Primary School bus students should arrive on campus at 7:05 a.m. daily and should enter the building and walk to their designated areas before breakfast, CPS Principal Ashlea Stewart said.

Stewart said dismissal times for bus students are color-coded into three groups. Buses arrive and depart on the bus lane at the west side of the campus.

Students arriving by car should be on campus at 7:15 a.m., and are to go to designated areas prior to breakfast, she said. Car riders are dismissed at the second bell at the end of the day and should go to Hall 7 to designated grade-level pick-up areas.

Morning and afternoon car lines are on the east side of the campus.

Beryl Henry Elementary

Students at Beryl Henry Elementary School are not expected to see any changes from last year.

Morning arrival for car riders is 7:20 a.m., with arrival and departure on the north side of the campus. Bus students should arrive at 7 a.m. on the east side of the campus.

Yerger Middle School

Students at YMS arriving and departing campus by bus will arrive on campus at 7 a.m. on the cafeteria side of the campus off Henry C. Yerger Street and will depart the same way at 3:20 p.m., according to Principal Josclyn Wiley.

Car riders should arrive beginning at 7:15 a.m. and depart beginning at 3:20 p.m. on the main office side of the campus off East Ninth Street, Wiley said.

Parents in the car line are asked to line up beside the fence on East Ninth Street, and not block the faculty/staff parking lot entrances, or impede through traffic on the other side of the street.

Hope Academy of Public Service students arriving by car should arrive at 7:15 via the Seventh Street parking lot, and enter the building on the Grady Street side, HAPS Principal Dr. Carol Ann Duke said. Parents should exit the parking lot via Seventh Street without blocking the bus loop on Washington Street, Duke said.

She said car riders depart from campus via the Seventh Street parking lot.

Bus riders will arrive at 7 a.m. via the bus loop on the Washington Street side of the campus, and will depart at the same place.

Staff parking is on the Seventh Street parking lot at the rear of the campus, and visitor parking is at the Sixth and Washington streets side parking lot. Handicapped parking spaces are provided near the Sixth and Grady streets intersection.

Parking along the frontage of Sixth Street is not allowed by city ordinance; and, will be affected by the planned work on that section of Sixth Street.

Hope High School

Students arriving and departing by car at Hope High School should do so on the 18th Street side of the campus, Principal Bill Hoglund said.

No personal vehicles are allowed in the bus line on campus, Hoglund said.

Bus riders arrive and depart via the bus line on the 16th Street side of the campus.
