Nevada built up a double-digit lead in the third and managed to stay a few possessions ahead of Mineral Springs throughout the remainder of the second half, leading to a 80-68 win for Nevada who now sits at the top of the conference. "We played hard tonight, Mineral is a really good team, very athletic and long but we managed to make the plays we needed to and had big nights from our seniors Kobe Hughey and Keyonte Wingfield," Coach Eddie Beck said.
Kobe Hughey was indeed hooping on Thursday night, posting a 25-point triple-double with 14 boards and 10 assists to help lead the Jays to a big time home win. Senior Keyonte Wingfield poured in 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out four assists, and drew a pair of big charges. Monti Mixon played around some early foul trouble but scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds, and had two big blocks. Taco Roberson and Hurk Burns each scored eight points, with Roberson bringing down seven rebounds. Rico Aparicio added five points and had six assists.
As a team, the Blue Jays had 24 assists on 31 made baskets. Nevada is back in action on Monday as they host DeQueen in the first of three games next week.
