Blue Jays Defense Plays Big Against Emerson, Top Pirates 65-38
Kirby- Nevada continues to play well, as they limited Emerson to hardly anything offensively on Wednesday, keeping the Pirates under 40 points in the first round of the Regional Tournament with a 65-38 win. "Defense got this one and it led to the win," Kavion Coleman said after the Blue Jays win.

The Jays held an 11-9 lead after the first quarter and it never got closer than that, as they extended their lead the rest of the way throughout the game. Constantly forcing turnovers and hitting big shots throughout the game, against a very athletic Pirates team. "Defense played good and everyone chipped in on offense," Coach Mario Bell said after the win.

Kavion Coleman led the way with 14 points, shooting 6/6 from the field, including knocking down 2 3-pointers while being boxed and 1'd the entire game. Coleman added 5 rebounds. Kobe Hughey played great once again for Nevada, as he continues to be a difference maker, scoring 13 points, dishing out 5 assists, grabbing 4 rebounds, and had 7 steals on the defensive end of the floor. Keyonte Wingfield poured in 12 points, had 5 assists, and grabed a couple of rebounds, along with forcing a lot of errant passes that led to turnovers. Senior Brogan Rhodes had a great game as well, scoring 7 points, grabbing 8 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists, along with a couple of blocks. Caleb Moss scored 6 points, Jakri Roberson scored 4 points and grabbed 3 rebounds, Justin Myrick hit a 3, and Rico Aparicio, Monti Mixon, and Hurk Burns each scored 2 points.

With the win, the Jays advance to the Regional Semifinals, as well as securing a spot in the State Tournament next week. Nevada will play the winner of Blevins/Taylor on Friday night at 5:30.
