Bearden came out shooting early on, as the Blue Jays trailed by double digits halfway through the 2nd quarter. Not an ideal start to the game for the Blue Jays, as they came out flat early, but Nevada went on a run of their own that saw a 13-point deficit disappear, as the teams went into the half tied at 34-34.
Fast forward to the end, the Blue Jays held a 3-point lead, but a prayer 3-pointer went in at the buzzer for the Bears to force OT. Enter Tre King, as he scored 6 of his 12 points in OT, including a big 3-pointer to get the scoring going and icing the game with a free throw to put the Jays up 4 points. Coach Eddie Beck spoke after the game on the win, "We came out very flat, we're going to fix that, definitely not our best game but we did a good job finding a way to win and advance in this tournament, we got conference starting tomorrow."
Kobe Hughey led the Jays with 18 points and posted a double-double with 11 rebounds. Hughey also added 3 assists and 3 steals. Keyonte Wingfield poured in 15 points, dished out 6 assists, and had 5 steals. These two seniors continue to do a great job of making sure this group stays composed. Tre King knocked down three 3's and finished the game with 12 points. "Tre came up big for us down the stretch, he hit some big shots, and showed that the moment wasn't too big for him," Coach Eddie Beck said after the game on the sophomore. Monti Mixon led the Jays in rebounds with 12 and scored 10 points for another double-double to add to his season. Rico Aparcio had 9 points and 5 assists. Hurk Burns had 4 points and Taco Roberson added 2.
Nevada is back on the road in Oden on Tuesday for their conference opener.
