Blue Jays Hit GW Shot Late to Beat Cougars 60-59
Rosston- It was senior night in Nevada and they welcomed a very good Lafayette County Cougars team into the "Nest" for their final home game of the season. Some high-level basketball was played on Tuesday night, as both teams have big aspirations when tournament time comes around. Both are bound for the Regional Tournament in a couple of weeks in Emerson.

A low scoring opening quarter had the Cougars taking a 12-10 lead into the second quarter, and Nevada outscored Lafayette by six in the second to take a four-point lead in halftime. The second half was an intense half and the gym got louder and louder as the game went on.

The Cougars led 59-58 with under 10 seconds remaining when Kobe Hughey made a nice pass to sophomore Taco Roberson who hit the game-winning basket and give the Jays a 60-59 win.

"Our region has a lot of really good teams, big win for our seniors. I believe they finished their career 44-4 on their home court in their career at Nevada. Kind of poetic that one of the seniors made the game-winning assist and the other made the defensive play at the end. Big win for us against a really good team," Coach Eddie Beck said after the win.

Monti Mixon led the way for the Jays with 20 points and 18 rebounds. Kobe Hughey finished with 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists and knocked down his 1,000th career point in the second quarter on Tuesday night. Taco Roberson scored 10 points and had seven boards. Rico Aparicio scored nine points, Keyonte Wingfield scored six, grabbed eight boards, and dished out a team-high six assists. Tre King hit a three, and Hurk Burns scored two points.

For the Cougars, Ty Palermo scored a game-high 33 points, as he proved to be a tall task for the Nevada defense, and Trey Johnson poured in 10 points.

Nevada is set to travel to Emerson on Friday night for a non-conference game.
