DeQueen began the third quarter on a run and took the lead, but the Blue Jays offense got going in the third, especially Rico Aparicio, who scored nine of his game-high 30 points in that quarter. The Blue Jays shooting heated up, as they knocked down six second-half threes. The defense forced some turnovers and the game got out of reach quick for the Leopards, as Nevada went on to win 75-56.
After the game, Coach Eddie Beck said, "We were without Monti tonight, who played a big role in our win earlier in the season on the defensive end of the floor against DeQueen the first time, but our guys collectively limited their main guy, and we got going on offense in the second half and pulled away. Great win against a 4A opponent."
The star of the night was junior guard Rico Aparicio who went for a 30-piece on Monday night, including knocking down four three-pointers. "Rico got really hot tonight. He hit his free throws, got some run-out layups, knocked down some threes. He was great tonight. We have a team that has multiple guys capable of scoring a lot and tonight that was definitively Rico," Coach Beck said.
Kobe Hughey and Keyonte Wingfield were both in double-figures for Nevada. Kobe scored 14 and Keyonte poured in 10 with numerous assists. Sophomore Taco Roberson added nine points and had a great game on the boards. Tre King knocked down a pair of threes and scored eight. Both Hurk Burns and Colten Burns scored two.
Nevada is back in action on Tuesday as they host Oden in a conference matchup. They look to stay at the top of the standings in league play.
