On Easter morning, someone wrote on the whitehouse.gov a beautiful explanation of Easter, why it
matters to Christians and what it means in our country. It’s titled, the “Presidential Message on Easter”
and could have been read in any of our churches. It’s meaningful, thoughtful and encouraging. Then at
7:03 am on Easter morning our President wrote this on his Truth Social page, “Tuesday will be Power
Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the
F****n’ Strait, you crazy b****ds, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President
DONALD J. TRUMP” How did those two statements come out of the same mouth and mind???
Two days later, on April 7 th , President Trump wrote again on Truth Social, “A whole civilization will die
tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.” He goes on to
talk about how the regime change leaves the possibility open for change and leaves it by saying “we’ll
find out tonight.” Then Sunday night our President posted an AI generated picture of himself wearing
robes and surrounded by admiring, praying people. He had what appears to be light in his hands, as he
places one hand on the head of a man in a hospital bed. All types of American images fill the picture,
from eagles to the flag, the Statue of Liberty, soldiers in uniform, fighter jets and even some weird,
shadowy images in the sky seemingly resembling angels. Most people say the image was intended to
make the President look like Jesus.
How can we not talk about these things? An Easter message any of us would proudly read aloud to a
post at best depicting the President to be a saint, all the way to the same President cussing Iran and
apparently threating to wipe out their nation via nuclear attack. Am I viewing this from a skewed
perspective? What is going on here?
Much smarter minds than mine are surrounding our President and working in his administration. I’m
quite sure my words are not going to do a single thing to influence any in that group, nor should they.
My hope is to call those who belong to Jesus in South Arkansas to think. This isn’t an angry Facebook
post. I’m not here to suggest a protest or talk about how ready people are for the next election. That
kind of talk is fruitless and dramatic. I am simply asking Christians to process the statements our
President is making. We must have a response.
People are precious, no matter their skin color or country of origin. We do not condone “wiping them
out” in any form. All those who agree with the Easter message should be committed to kindness and
mercy, not stooping to the level of name calling and threatening. Certainly, there is room for political
rhetoric, but it should never create such deep divides as we are seeing in our country today. To the outsider it appears the two parties in Washington hate each other and would love nothing more than to
see their opponents “wiped out.” Is this the culture we want to promote? Is this how we want to teach
our children to interact with the people who disagree with them? And just so we are abundantly clear,
no person on earth should ever position themselves AS Jesus and anyone who does should be very
aware of the conversation that is waiting on them with God as the Judge.
Words are words. They lose their power and effectiveness when pitted against one another as the
President’s have. As believers, do not respond in kind. Pray for our President and the many advisors he
has surrounding him. As with every national leader, countries and culture are always in the middle.
