Day 1 of Hope Lions Club Christmas Auction draws many on cold night

Day 1 of Hope Lions Club Christmas Auction draws many on cold night
The 76th Hope Lions Club Christmas Auction began promptly at 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening.  Auctioneers for the evening included Lion Mark Ross, professional auctioneer Don Honea and New Hope Baptist Church Pastor Greg Ridling.  Former Mayor Steve Montgomery made known the items' names and announced their donors.

To the south of the stage, as promised, the Hope Evening Lions served homemade soups, chilis (available with and without beans) and hot dogs.  You could also sample cookies, brownies and cakes produced by Evening Lions members.

The attendance exceeded expectations considering temperatures in the mid-30s and a steady rain. The bidders weren't shy about raising their hands for Lion spotters to see and the auctioneers to call out.  The proceeds from the donated items will go to fund Christmas grocery boxes for low-income families in and around Hope.

Applications for baskets can be filled in at the auction itself, at the Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce and at the office of Caney Creek Estates.

A few photos from Thursday evening. The auction continues at the Fair Park Coliseum, starting at 6:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings.
