Emmet Mayor Dale Booker resigns
Late Thursday night, Emmet's Recorder/Treasurer Rosalind McBride reached out to SWARK.Today with the following announcement:

"Dale Booker, Mayor of Emmet, resigned from his post this evening due to  health problems. He will certainly be missed as being Mayor. He has done an excellent job all these years."

Booker's decision follows a period of tumult in Emmet's government in which former city council member Rob Clark made allegations in January of failure to follow state law in the presentation of financial reports and then resigned.  The matter of appointing a replacement was tabled until the February meeting.

Permission was granted in the early hours of Friday morning to use information from a letter Booker wrote to the City Council and Citizens of Emmet.

Booker cited "ongoing health challenges" that compelled him to resign effective Thursday and a need for time in which to recuperate.  He comments that during a long career of service to the town as police officer, fireman and mayor he hoped to give back to Emmet what was given to him.

He also expressed gratitude toward the citizens and said he felt assured of leaving the town in good hands and in a strong position for its future.
