HCSO Deputy Jacob Wayne Recognized with Sheriff’s Commendation for Outstanding Service

HCSO Deputy Jacob Wayne Recognized with Sheriff’s Commendation for Outstanding Service
Sometimes, the hardest workers are the ones who least expect recognition. That was certainly the case for Hempstead County Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Wayne, who was recently awarded the Sheriff’s Commendation by Sheriff James Singleton for his exceptional service throughout 2025.

In a press release from the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office, (HCSO) Wayne was described as having "unwavering commitment to public safety" and "dependable leadership." The story behind the badge reveals a deputy driven by a simple love for the job and a desire to make a difference.

Sheriff Singleton noted that the commendation is reserved for those performing an outstanding job, and Wayne fits that description perfectly.

"It is a combination of things and the way he performs his job," Sheriff Singleton told SWARK.Today. "He never says no. He always volunteers for extra shifts if we are short-handed. He never calls in sick. He is just an upstanding guy."

Captain Justin Crane echoed those sentiments, painting a picture of a deputy with an unmatched work ethic and attitude.

"He takes care of his stuff, he’s a hard worker, and he never says no when we ask our deputies for an extra hand," Captain Crane said.

Crane also noted that Wayne recently completed the Field Training Officer (FTO) program, allowing him to train new deputies. "We hope he can instill some of those same values into new deputies in the future," Crane added.

For Deputy Wayne, who has served with the HCSO for five years and has been in law enforcement for eight (starting his career in Prescott), the award came as a complete surprise.

"I really wasn't expecting it," Wayne admitted. "I don't try to do it for the rewards; I honestly just love doing my job."

Wayne’s motivation for wearing the badge is personal. He explained that his dedication stems from wanting to be a positive force in the community and to change negative perceptions of law enforcement.

"I grew up watching how some cops treat the public and how the public views law enforcement," Wayne said. "I figured if I can do something to show people that we're not all like that, then at least I'm doing something good."

In addition to his FTO certification, Wayne also recently received his School Resource Officer (SRO) certification. When asked about his future, Wayne made it clear he is in it for the long haul.

SWARK.Today joins the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office in congratulating Deputy Jacob Wayne on this well-deserved honor. As stated in their official release, "This commendation reflects not only his hard work, but the respect and trust he has earned from his peers and the public he serves."
