Hempstead County Leadership Class of 2025 Graduates at Hempstead Hall
The Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce held the 2025 Hempstead County Leadership Class graduation this evening at Hempstead Hall. Each individual shared reflections on the days they spent learning from facilitators, many of whom were alumni of previous leadership classes.

From tourism and government, to medical services and economic development, plus education and agriculture, the sessions offered a wide range of experiences.

Participants engaged in presentations, slideshows, and speeches, all of which were well-prepared and delivered. Leadership class members said they enjoyed the hands-on experience and encouraged people to apply to join the incoming 2026 class, highlighting how the program pushes participants forward in their leadership roles.

A variety of refreshments were available for class members and guests to enjoy along with a fancy cake with the Hempstead County Leadership and Chamber logos.

Mayor Don Still spoke to the class saying, “What a great way for our city to develop leaders through volunteer service. Dream big about how you can make Hope an even better place. I truly appreciate the time and dedication each of you has committed to this effort.

Arkansas State Representative, Dolly Henley said a few words to the class: Your willingness to invest your time, energy, and passion into the leadership journey is a true sign of commitment not just to your own growth, but to the future of Southwest Arkansas. We need leaders who will listen, collaborate, and take action. From what I’ve seen and heard, you are exactly those leaders. Congratulations on your achievement.”

Christy Burns, Executive Director of the Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce, said, “It was a joy to witness this group of graduates as an alum myself. I look forward to seeing how they grow, contribute, and make an impact on our community in the years ahead.”

2026 Leadership Class Members:

Kelly Wilcox, UAHT; Lisa Clark, UAHT; Daniel Shelman, The City of Hopel Jeff Smithpeters, SWARK.Today; Hunter Calhoon, New Millennium; Jesus Hernandez, Farmers Bank & Trust, and Marilyn Marks, Hope Public Schools.

The evening marked the culmination of an eight-month-long program designed to develop leadership skills and foster community engagement among local professionals.

The project the class put together during their enrollment was a mural painted on the back of The Call Mall by Carrie Sherbert.  The program Thursday evening featured a video in which the painting could be seen developing from its storyboard phase to line sketching to painting and then filling in textures and colors.  The unveiling of the mural will occur Thursday October 2nd on the 100 block of West Second Street at 10:00 a.m.
