TEXARKANA — Hospice of Texarkana has named Greg Wood as its new Executive Director. Wood brings
more than 24 years of leadership experience in hospice care, having previously led two hospice
organizations before joining Hospice of Texarkana.
Wood holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Southwestern College and a Master of Science in
Health Care Administration from Oklahoma State University. He is licensed in social work in Arkansas
and holds a ministry license with the Assemblies of God. In October 2025, Wood was appointed as a
commissioner to the Arkansas Health Services Permit Agency Commission, representing the hospice
community. He also serves as an online instructor with the University of Phoenix for the past 11 years.
Wood's path to hospice care began with a personal experience, watching hospice professionals care for a
family member during a serious illness.
“These professional strangers exhibited the most impressive love and acceptance I had witnessed. As a
future social worker, I wanted to be part of such a purpose and a mission. I thought I was into the
ministry but the lasting impression the hospice professionals and volunteers made in my life shifted my
future and ultimate calling,” he said.
Wood is ready to get to work in his new position.
“In the near term, my focus is on getting to know our team and culture, our community, and the many
supporters who make this work possible," he said. "My long-term goal is for Hospice of
Texarkana to be the first and preferred choice for end-of-life care in this region. Not all hospice care is the
same, and I want our community to know that when their family is facing serious illness, we are that
beacon of hope they can turn to when their world has turned upside down. We will walk on that journey
with them.": “The end-of-life experience for any of us is such a sacred space of time that it must be treated
with integrity, sensitivity and compassion for everyone involved. The more we’re focused on providing that,
the greater our impact will be on individuals and their loved ones,” he said.
Wood succeeds Cindy Marsh, who is retiring after 33 years as Executive Director. During her tenure,
Marsh guided the organization through significant growth, including the construction of its 12-bed
Inpatient Care Center. Wood has been working closely with Marsh for the past few months to ensure
the transition between directors is as seamless as possible.
