Since switching from barbecue chicken legs and wings to thighs, the Kiwanis members have often sold out of meals well before the 7:00 p.m. closing time scheduled.
The pulled pork is prepared about a week ahead of time as it is hardwood smoked. On Watermelon Festival Thursdays the members then heat it up wrapped in aluminum foil in a coal-fired oven just prior to serving time at 4:30 p.m.
Kiwanis uses the proceeds from its very reasonable $10 ticket charge for the meal to fund scholarships, education efforts for local students, and providing hands-on services for families who need it.
