Local Elementary Students Receive a Summer Gift from Prescott Nonprofit

PRESCOTT — Hamilton Haven, a Prescott nonprofit which provides emergency, short-term housing to temporarily displaced families and individuals, continued its book donation project for kindergarten students.

Hamilton Haven volunteers delivered books to Randy Hughes Elementary in Blevins, Nevada Elementary, and Prescott Elementary on May 11 and May 12.

“We provided more than 125 books to seven kindergarten classes at the schools,” said Hamilton Haven administrative assistant and board member Leslie Hughes. “Our aim is to encourage reading through the summer, and we look forward to continuing this community involvement of focusing on education and reading with our young neighbors.”

This is the fourth year of the book donation project, which began with Prescott Elementary in 2023 before expanding to Blevins and Nevada in 2024.

“Our team sees this work as a blessing and an investment in our community,” said Hamilton Haven executive director Michele Hamilton Rhodes. “Young people expanding their knowledge is exciting.”

Dr. Kimberly Turner is the principal of the Blevins schools. Tonda Pennington serves as Nevada Elementary principal. Kimberly Grimes is the principal of Prescott Elementary.

“When we read, we win. Readers are leaders,” Rhodes added.
