The funds would be from an Arkansas Community and Economic grant to repair main lines in the Wildcat Road/Newtown area where residents have long suffered from the results of sewer line leaks. Smoke tests in July, Oliver said, confirmed the need for the repairs. After the meeting, in which four resolutions were passed that are also required in the application for the grantt, Oliver said the city should hear whether it will be receiving the grant in about two months.
After the public meeting session was held, with no comment made except for approval of the idea of applying which came from an assistant of City Treasurer Carl Dalrymple, the council voted unanimously in favor of the four resolutions, which were read by City Recorder John Miller.
Council member Howard Austin asked Oliver whether the work would also end flooding of residents' yards in the area. Oliver said he thought that would be part of any project funded by the grant.
The council adjourned after the less-than-ten-minute session.
