FAYETTEVILLE -- No. 17 Arkansas dominated visiting South Carolina 108-74 on Wednesday night in Bud Walton Arena.
Arkansas (13-4, 3-1) held a 50-38 lead at the intermission, but came out firing on all cylinders in the second half outscoring the Gamecocks 58-36. After getting blown out on Saturday at Auburn, the Razorbacks came out focused which pleased John Calipari.
"It's nice to have my team back," Calipari said. "We focused on how we need to play. Offensively we had 27 assists and four turnovers versus an SEC team. That's probably a record. I bet its never happened."
Arkansas had 66 points in the paint. The Razorbacks also forced South Carolina into 16 turnovers. South Carolina had committed the fewest turnovers in the SEC entering the game.
"Where we were trying to get the ball was really good," Calipari said. "They were helping each other get going. We defended better."
Arkansas stretched the lead to 108-65 with 2:31 remaining. Calipari subbed out and the Gamecocks scored the final nine points on the game. Meechie Johnson was the only Gamecock in double figures scoring 29 points.
"Meechie got going in the first half scoring 18 points," Calipari said. "I told Darius (Acuff Jr.) to guard him. I thought he did a pretty good job on him. Acuff and Meleek (Thomas) both played really well."
Acuff had 18 points, four rebounds to go with 13 assists. Thomas came off the bench to lead Arkansas with 21 points while also contributing four rebounds, two assists, a block and four steals.
"But I'm going to tell you who played really well was Nick Pringle, wow," Calipari said. "Malique Ewin played pretty well. Billy (Richmond), I started him because I wasn't sure Karter Knox was going to be able to play. He had a hip pointer (limited him to seven minutes against Auburn). So he probably taken it off, but he said, 'Nah I want to play.'"
Ewin added 18 points and four rebounds off the bench. Pringle had one of his best games as a Razorback against his former team. Pringle had 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Richmond was the only starter not in double figures. He scored three points, but also added five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and three steals."
Trevon Brazile added 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. D.J. Wagner scored 12 points including a monster slam on a fast break.
Arkansas shot 59% (43-73) from the field and 38% from behind the 3-point line. Arkansas made eight 3-pointers in 21 attempts. South Carolina (10-7, 1-3) made seven 3-pointers but took 30 shots for 23%. The visitors also only made 44% (28-63) from the field.
Arkansas will now be on the road again to face No. 21 Georgia (14-3, 2-2). The Bulldogs were stunned at home Wednesday night 97-95 in overtime by Ole Miss. The game will tip at 3 p.m. Saturday and televised on ESPN2.
