FAYETTEVILLE -- Rohan Jones has been a very good addition for Arkansas at tight end.
Jones was a First-Team FCS Football Central All-America at Montana State last season when he caught 30 passes for 430 yards and nine touchdowns. This season with the Razorbacks, he has caught seven passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed once for five yards and another touchdown. The tight ends have caught 30 passes this season.
"I think our whole group has been very consistent from the first game all the way down the line," Jones said. "I think no matter who was in the game, whether that be Andreas (Paaske), Jaden (Platt), me, fullback Maddox (Lassiter), I think we all do a good job when we go in there. So I think the quarterback and Bobby Petrino, they see what we're doing, and they just want to get us the ball more, but I think whether we have the ball or not, we're trying to just impact the game and help the offense win."
Paaske suffered an injury and has been ruled out for the season.
"We're all there for him and definitely just wishing him the best throughout his recovery and hope to get him back soon," Jones said.
When Petrino took over as interim head coach following the Notre Dame game the practice schedule changed. Arkansas now practices on Sunday and has Monday off. It was the opposite under Sam Pittman.
"I think it's really allows us to really separate one week from the other," Jones said. "So we got done with Tennessee on Sunday, and then Monday off, you get to rest, take care of your body, and then we come in on Tuesday really ready to work on our next opponent. So I like it a lot as well."
What has Jones done at his previous schools as far as practice schedules?
"I did two years of off Sunday, and this is my second year of off Monday, so I’m used to both," Jones said. "But I would say I prefer this schedule right here."
Platt will be going against his former school on Saturday. Jones was asked what Platt has said about the game.
"I don't think he has to say too much," Jones said. "I think as much as it’s his old team, I think it's going to be a good game and we all just want to get the win, not for them, but just for us."
Arkansas could possibly be 5-1 now instead of 2-4 if not for turnovers against Ole Miss, Memphis and Tennessee.
"I can't say that hasn't been that frustrating because you can't blame a whole game on one play," Jones said. "So I think we made errors earlier in the game that we could have been in a better position to win. So I think not only focusing on the fumble, just focusing on playing better as a whole and just, like I said, doing what we do, starving to be better play-by-play and just get the game finished."
Jones talked about the vibes he's gotten from Petrino as the interim head coach.
"His fiery energy and his get your face and yell a little bit, we needed a little bit of that," Jones said. " I think he’s done a great job getting the defense fired up but not only focusing on the offense. He’s done a really good job at transitioning to coaching the entire team."
For whatever reasons, Arkansas hasn't played well at home in recent years. What has Petrino changed on Friday leading up to the game?
"Coach Petrino, he just changed our schedule to what he’s used to," Jones said. "So just different times and getting to different times for meals. But essentially the day before our game, we’re just getting ready to play."
Arkansas and Texas A&M will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in Razorback Stadium with the game slated for ESPN.
