Southwest Arkansas Arts Council holds chamber coffee in downtown headquarters
It was a big turnout for Wednesday morning’s Hope-Hempstead Chamber of Commerce Coffee held at the 200 East Division Street headquarters of Southwest Arkansas Arts Council.

With treats like cream cheese crackers paired with raspberry and watermelon preserves, donuts, chocolate chip cookies, meatballs, sub sandwich slices, fruit plates and much else served up by members of SWAAC’s board of directors, the coffee began at 9:30 a.m.

New SWAAC Director Rachel Pendergraft, who views art as a phenomenon that “can spark conversation and bring people together,” had a big smile on her face as she mingled with the various attendees.  If her mission was to make SWAAC even more visible and compelling than before, the number of art lovers who came into the converted depot and current museum and SWAAC offices made the case she is doing a lot right just a couple months into her tenure.

Beverages available included orange juice and coffee that was especially rich and flavorful.  At the table where these were provided stood a bouquet of art supplies that could have been mistaken by the far-sighted for a billowing of colorful flowers.
