Don and Jewell Still, fixtures in the Hope business community, have sold the business to long-time family friends Stacy and Jerita Wylie, the owners of Wylie Glass and Salvage.
Addressing the friends and customers gathered just before the ribbon was cut, Don Still expressed gratitude on behalf of himself and his brother Jewell for the community's support over the decades. "I appreciate everybody coming out and thanks for the years of service," he said. Gesturing to the new owners, he added, "We celebrate Stacy and his crew taking over, and I hope y'all treat him as well as you treated us for all these years."
For the Wylies, this acquisition is about preserving history while moving forward. In an interview with SWARK.Today, Jerita Wylie noted that the transition merges two long-standing local legacies; Wylie Glass and Salvage has been in business for 75 years, while Still's Auto has served Hope for 65 years.
"We are excited to continue not only the Still's legacy but the Wylie legacy and the community of Hope," Jerita said. "It provides an avenue for the continuation of both businesses."
Attendees were able to tour the facility and see the impressive new renovations inside the shop, which was transformed for the occasion. The space set a cheerful tone for the large crowd, featuring cute holiday decorations that perfectly blended the automotive history of the building with seasonal style, including charming vintage cars mixed with stylish Christmas decor.
The hosts ensured it was a true party, providing a massive lunch spread for everyone to enjoy. The food featured favorites from fellow local businesses, including Kat's Kreations, Picket Fence, Amigo Juan, Big Jake's, and Nothing Bundt Cakes. Participants could be seen laughing and enjoying the party on this festive Friday afternoon, making for a great ribbon-cutting and retirement celebration.
Congratulations to Don and Jewell Still on their well-earned retirement, and best of luck to Third Street Auto as they continue to serve Hempstead County.
