Transfer Portal Update: Arkansas Lands Four Former 4-Star Recruits
By Otis Kirk

FAYETTEVILLE -- Tuesday was another busy day for the Arkansas football coaches as they landed four more players from the transfer portal including two defensive tackles.

The players they added are all former 4-star recruits. The Hogs inked USC defensive tackle Carlon Jones, 6-2, 310; Virginia defensive tackle Hunter Osborne, 6-4, 301; Tulane cornerback Jahiem Johnson, 6-0, 189; and Michigan running back Jasper Parker, 6-0, 205.

Parker will join Memphis' Sutton Smith, 5-9, 185, to combine with returnee Braylen Russell. 6-1, 238, plus some younger players to provide a very good running back room. Parker was a 4-star recruit out of Gretna (La.) Archbishop Shaw High School in the Class of 2025. He had 25 carries for 93 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Michigan.

As a senior in 2024, totaled 1,612 all-purpose yards with 22 touchdowns; 1,464 rushing yards, 148 receiving yards plus in playoffs: 12 for 109 and 4 touchdowns. Set a program single-game record with 326 rushing yards on 35 carries against Lafayette Christian; carried 11 straight plays for 72 yards.

Johnson had a very good redshirt sophomore season with Tulane. Johnson finished with 42 tackles, 32 solo, 1 for loss, a fumble recovery, 4 interceptions and 9 pass breakups.

Johnson played high school football at Hammond (La.). In high school, Johnson played wide receiver, quarterback and cornerback. Recorded a 99-yard interception return for touchdown against Northshore as a senior. As a junior, he had a game against Mandeville where he posted four different types of touchdowns (rushing, receiving, kick return, interception return).

This was a huge get. Jones was rated the No. 17 defensive lineman in the Class of 2024. He had four tackles this season, three solo, in limited action. Jones is who they can plug in on the interior defensive line along with David Oke, Hunter Osborne and others. In the 247Composite Top 300 he was No. 247 coming out of high school.

He played high school football at Bay City (Texas). Jones redshirted in 2024 so he has three years to play three with the Razorbacks. As a senior at Bay City he recorded 95 tackles, including 30 TFLs (with 17.5 sacks) and 23 QB hurries. He tied for third in the state in sacks. He was named Texas District 12-4 Division I MVP. Additionally, he was named the Preseason 4A Defensive Player of the Year and selected to the Preseason 4A All-State First Team.

As a junior in 2022, he tallied 102 tackles, including 29 for loss (with 13 sacks), 4 QB hurries and 1 PBU. He was named the 2022 Texas District 12-4A Division I Co-Defensive MVP and the 2022 Victoria Advocate All-Area Defensive Lineman of the Year. He also earned placement on the Texas Sports Writers Association 4A All-State First Team and the 2022 Padilla Poll All-State Second Team.

During his sophomore season, he notched 63 tackles, including 11 for loss (with 2 sacks) and 3 forced fumbles. Offensively, he had 5 receptions for 54 yards (10.8 avg.) and 1 TD. He was named Team Defensive MVP and selected to the 2021 District 12-4A First Team.

He was a three-sport standout at Bay City. He also played basketball and did the shot put in track & field.

Osborne was at Arkansas on Sunday and Monday. He signed with the Crimson Tide out of Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.). In 2025 at Virginia, Osborne had 15 tackles, 2 for loss and one sack.

Osborne praised Ryan Silverfield for what the new coach is doing with the Razorbacks.

"Coach Silverfield is doing good things over there with the program,” Osborne said. “Bringing in the right people and looking to bring in the right players. It was blessing that I got to go visit. It’s exciting. It definitely gives me something to think about.”

He visited Arkansas and Kentucky before making his decision. He had planned to visit South Carolina and Mississippi State, but opted to cancel them. The visit to Arkansas sold him on being a Razorback.

“It did good things," Osborne said. "He’s definitely trying to change the mantra around with Arkansas football. He’s a winner. He’s been a winner everywhere he’s been. He did really good things when he got Coach (Marion) Hobby, Coach (Kynjee') Cotton and Coach (Ron) Roberts so it gives me something to think about for sure.”

Osborne pointed to Silverfield when asked if anything stood out?

“Really coach Silverfield’s hospitality," Osborne said. "He made me feel like I was at home. Very welcoming. He definitely made me feel like this is place I can thrive in and produce and be successful at.”

In other recruiting news, Arkansas has extended an offer to Tyler (Texas) Junior College quarterback Tre Guerra.

Guerra, 6-2, 190, helped lead Tyler to an 11-1 record this season. The only loss came to Iowa Western 41-29 in the semifinals of the NJCAA playoffs. Guerra completed 216 of 347 passes for 2,811 yards, 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

In addition to Arkansas, Guerra has pulled in offers from Florida State, Texas Tech, Southern Miss and Kentucky.

He played high school football at Keller (Texas). Arkansas has two quarterbacks on scholarship at this time. They have KJ Jackson, 6-4, 220, who is returning, and Memphis transfer Antwann "AJ" Hill, 6-4, 215.
