Westerman Vote to Reopen Government, Support Service Members and AG Community
WASHINGTON - Today, the House of Representatives passed the Senate’s Continuing Resolution which included appropriations legislation for agriculture, the legislative branch, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. Congressman Bruce Westerman (AR-04) released the following statement: “After more than 40 days of leaving American taxpayers to shoulder the burden of political theatre that created needless hardship on families, workers, and communities across the Fourth District, House Republicans have passed a measure to reopen the government,”
said Congressman Bruce Westerman (AR-04). “I’m proud to have cast my vote not only to get Washington working again, but to pass legislation that supports our military heroes who have served our country, our hardworking farmers and agriculture community, and government operations for constituents across the Fourth District. I am eager to hit the ground running to continue the work we’re doing to create commonsense, conservative legislation that delivers on the promise House Republicans made to the American people.”

Background

Today’s vote included legislation which addresses the following issues:

Agriculture
• Invests in MAHA food safety, USDA, and FDA — keeping America’s food and drug supply secure.
• Strengthens tracking of foreign land purchased to protect U.S. farmland.
• Funds land-grant universities to keep U.S. agriculture competitive against China.
• Fully funds nutrition programs — SNAP, WIC, Child Nutrition.

Legislative Branch
• Ensures continued operations and services for constituents.
• Supports governance and work advancing President Trump’s legislative priorities.
• Prevents federal dollars from going to Chinese-made tech or drones.
• Requires unused MRA funds to go towards reducing the debt.
• Eliminates wasteful, liberal mandates, including “low-emission” vehicle requirements.

Military and Construction Veterans Affairs
• Fully funds veterans’ health care and benefits.
• Implements historic heath record tech modernization to improve care, speed, and access.
• Invests in critical base upgrades, barracks, schools, hospitals, shipyards, and childcare centers.
• Protects the 2nd Amendment rights of veterans.
