James Edward McDonald was born August 19, 1942 in Hope, Arkansas to Ethel and John Henry McDonald. He was the fourth child of five children.
As an adolescent, he joined Beebe Memorial Methodist Church. In 1971, James was employed with KXAR Radio Station, becoming the first black man to be on salary as a disc jockey. He later moved and was hired by Ray Van Janitorial Services, where he retired as a salesman in San Leandro, California.
James was a proud member of the 1961 Yerger High class member. James truly enjoyed returning home for the class reunion until his health began to fail.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and John Henry McDonald; sister, Gay Marion Standard; brothers, John Henry, Charles and Will Arthur (Mickey) McDonald; son, James Patrick (Peety) McDonald.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, Carolyn Wilson McDonald of Arlington, TX; his children, Regina McDonald of Ft. Worth, TX, Yalonda McDonald of Los Angeles, CA; son, Fidell McDonald of Oakland, CA, Cedric Pettus, Antonio Pettus of St. Louis, MO; sister, Willie Pearl Turnetine Hardemon; goddaughters, Krystal Witherspoon Wyatt and Joslyn Reed Walker; 22 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; friends he could always depend on George Davis, Earl Edwards, Roscoe Smith, Billy Williams, Douglas Williamson, Frank Witherspoon.
Visitation will be 12-5pm Friday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 11am Saturday, February 1 at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, Hope. Burial will be at Scott’s Memorial Gardens in Perrytown. Arrangements entrusted to Hicks Funeral Home, Inc.
